You Can Make a Difference in Foster Care

There are nearly 407,000 children in foster care in the United States. A child is removed from
their home and placed into foster care every two minutes. The trauma of childhood abuse and
neglect is the single greatest public health crisis facing children in America. Statistics such as
these can appear grim and overwhelming, but you can make a difference.

Learn More About Foster Care: Clearly, the need for foster parents is imperative, but you don’t
have to commit to immediately becoming a foster parent. Learning more about foster care and
what the experience might look like for you is a good first step.

Clarify Misconceptions: CTSHealth encourages and welcomes those with an open heart.
There are many misconceptions about foster care and we addressed some of those in last
week’s blog, 10 Myths of Foster Care Parenting. Many people have potential to become a foster
parent - married, single, LGBTQIA+ or any religious affiliation.

Raise Awareness and Advocate: Stay informed about what’s happening with the foster care
system in America and advocate for efforts that strengthen families in your local community.
Follow CTSHealth’ blog and social media accounts. We share helpful information and resources
about parenting, child welfare, and mental health wellness. When you connect with and share
the challenges facing families today, you can make a positive impact in the lives of children near
you.

Donate and Help Raise Funds: There are different ways you can support foster care and the
children we serve through generous donations and participation in community events. We
regularly post local events and fundraisers on our Facebook and Instagram accounts, as well as
have our ongoing efforts linked on our website’s nonprofit tab.

Consider a Career in the Field: Working in foster care serves people and children in need.
Browse our website’s careers tab for current openings with CTSHealth and job descriptions to
see if it’s something you’d like to explore.
